CM Yogi broke the back of illegal drug dealers, collected evidence from Jharkhand, Haryana, Himachal, then the biggest crack down
Codeine Cough Syrup: As soon as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assumed power in the state, he started a war against illegal drug dealers under the zero tolerance policy in the state. In such a situation, as per the intention of CM Yogi, ANTF was formed in the year 2022.
In this sequence, on the instructions of Yogi government, FSDA launched a campaign against illegal trade and diversion of codeine cough syrup and NDPS category medicines. The department launched a thorough internal investigation before launching the country’s biggest crackdown. The department investigated states like Jharkhand, Haryana, Himachal and collected evidence of their business relationships with super stockists and wholesalers of Uttar Pradesh. After all these processes, the crack down of the department started two months ago, which is still going on.
More than half a dozen operators jailed
In two months, the department conducted raids across the state and lodged FIRs against 133 firms in 31 districts. More than half a dozen operators of these firms have also been sent to jail. On the instructions of CM Yogi, FSDA took strict action against those smuggling codeine cough syrup as an intoxicant, which is the biggest crack down so far in the entire country. In other states, only food supply was done in the name of action.
Case under NDPS and BNS sections
FSDA Secretary and Commissioner Dr. Roshan Jacob said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had given clear instructions to deal strictly with those who push the youth of the state into the lap of drugs. In such a situation, on the instructions of CM Yogi, a plan was made to run a large-scale campaign against the criminals smuggling codeine cough syrup as an intoxicant across the state, which is still going on.
Attack on those who ruin the lives of youth
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had given clear guidelines that the action of FSDA should not stop only at canceling the license, but such action should be taken by the department, which will become an example in the entire country for the times to come. CM had given instructions that such action should be taken so that the web of those who ruin the lives of youth can be completely destroyed.
Illegal diversion of codeine cough syrup
In such a situation, for the first time, FSDA filed a case under NDPS and BNS Act against those involved in illegal diversion of codeine cough syrup, due to which the action proved to be more strict. Wrote a letter to the District Magistrate for action under Gangster Act.
On the instructions of CM Yogi, the documents and storage of 332 medicine selling establishments in 52 districts of the state were examined. Investigation revealed that many dispensaries did not exist but were merely functioning as billing points. Apart from this, many establishments did not have adequate storage arrangements. Besides, records of purchase and sale of medicines were also not found.

He said that in the investigation, out of 332 drug selling establishments, 133 establishments were systematically diverting these medicines for non-medical use and misusing them as intoxicants. They are mainly sending drugs through Lucknow, Kanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich to Nepal and from Varanasi, Ghaziabad to Bangladesh.
Cases surfaced in these cities
Cases of smuggling of codeine cough syrup as an intoxicant have come to light in these cities: Varanasi, Jaunpur, Kanpur Nagar, Ghazipur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Lucknow, Bahraich, Bijnor, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Sitapur, Sonbhadra, Balrampur, Rae Bareli, Sant Kabir Nagar, Hardoi, Bhadohi, Amethi, Shravasti, Siddharthnagar, Unnao, Basti, Ambedaknagar, Azamgarh, Saharanpur, Bareilly, Sultanpur, Chandauli, Mirzapur, Banda, Kaushambi.
CM Yogi gave strict instructions
Two months ago, CM Yogi had clearly given instructions to curb illegal diversion of narcotics category drugs and cough syrup containing codeine. He had said that wherever this is happening in the entire state, it should be stopped by taking immediate strict action.
Big action against super stockist and wholesale seller
It should be taken care that there is no diversion of drugs in the form of intoxicants from the state to any other state and country. CM instructed not to harass small traders during the action. He directed to take action against super stockists and wholesalers involved in corruption.
For the first time, on the instructions of CM Yogi, the department lodged an FIR under NDPS and BNS Act against people involved in prostitution. Wrote letters to all DMs for action under Gangster Act.
