The statement of MP Hanuman Beniwal, who is always in the news due to his controversial statements, created a sensation in the country. Beniwal was raising the issue during a debate on electoral reforms. At this time, he said that strict action should be taken against those who do not exercise their right to vote. Standing in Parliament, he clearly stated that if a person does not vote three times in a row, his name should be permanently removed from the electoral roll to create awareness.

No voting, democracy is weak
Addressing the House, Hanuman Beniwal said, “I demand that voting should be made compulsory in the country so that every citizen understands his responsibility. If the government cannot do this, then at least make it a rule that anyone who does not vote three times should be considered ignorant and his vote cancelled.” Beniwal believes that such stringent measures are necessary to prevent fraudulent voting and reveal accurate statistics. He said voting is often done by other means, which weakens democracy.

Besides talking about voting rigour, Hanuman Beniwal also advocated for the poor and labourers. He demanded an extension of one month for the ongoing SIR campaign in Rajasthan. Beniwal said people from Dalit, tribal and OBC communities live in states like Gujarat, South India and Maharashtra and live elsewhere for livelihood. Last date of SIR is 11th and they will not be able to collect documents early. MPs requested to extend this deadline by one month. He said that democracy will survive only when everyone has the right to vote and no one’s name is deleted wrongly.
