Meanwhile, experts have predicted that the inspection will be completed in the next few days and the road will be opened for public use. Swargate area is an important transportation hub of the city.
Due to the highway, ST bus services, PMPML buses and metro, Swargate has heavy traffic throughout the day. At present, pedestrians have to cross Swargate Chowk to reach the metro station.
Heavy traffic from two-wheelers to heavy vehicles continues at this intersection. Hence, pedestrians have to hold on for their lives while crossing the square. With thousands of commuters crossing the road in perilous conditions every day, the need for a safer alternative was highlighted.
The new subway will reduce this risk to a great extent. Both Swargate Bus Stand and Metro Station are strategic locations for commuters and connecting them by underground will provide a safe, fast and convenient option for pedestrians.
Whether it is monsoon or summer, the journey between the two stations through this route will be completely seamless and comfortable. Metro services in Pune are gradually becoming an integral part of the common man’s daily commute.
The number of citizens going to different parts of the city from Swargate is significant. Although the metro reduced travel time, there was a need for safe connectivity between stations. If this footpath is opened, it will reduce the congestion in Swargate Chowk and will help in smooth traffic flow.
Meanwhile, the metro administration has informed that the route’s internal facilities, monitoring system and safety standards have been met. It is expected that this road will be opened for citizens soon after the security check.
