Rivers of blood in the name of entertainment…Radhika Apte did not like Dhurandhar? Anger erupted over increasing violence in films

Bollywood actress Radhika Apte has openly expressed her concern over excessive violence being shown in Indian films and OTT platforms (streaming services). Recently, in an interview given to The Hollywood Reporter India, he said very clearly that he is extremely saddened and troubled by the bloodshed and cruel scenes that are being presented in the name of entertainment these days. Radhika had just become a mother and was taking a break of a few months after the birth of her child.

Now while returning to work, she said, ‘I want to say this openly that I feel very pained to see all this. I am deeply disturbed that such horrific violence is being sold in the name of entertainment. I do not want my child to grow up in such an environment where beating, biting and shedding blood becomes entertainment for people. I can’t tolerate this thing at all.

What is the need to show so much bloodshed?

He further said that nowadays filmmakers are putting excessively horrific and cruel scenes without any need. They consider it ‘story telling’, whereas it is not at all. Giving an example, Radhika said, ‘Suppose I have to show the story of a serial killer who cuts people into pieces, is it necessary for me to show every cutting, every blood and every horrific scene in detail? No! This is not storytelling, it is just an attempt to scare the audience and create sensation. I have never seen such terrible things in my life. But these days it is selling the most and I feel very sad to see that it is having a negative impact on the society.

story and characters matter

Radhika believes that since the Covid pandemic, the film and web series industry has started emphasizing only on spectacle and sensation instead of depth and sensitivity. Where earlier the nuances of the characters and the nuances of the story mattered, now just shouting loudly and showing gore is being done. He appealed to all the filmmakers and content creators to understand how deeply the films or series made by them have an impact on the society and the coming generation. We should create content responsibly.

Radhika Apte’s new film

Amidst all this, Radhika Apte is going to be seen in a new psychological thriller film very soon. The name of the film is ‘Saali Mohabbat’, it has been directed by actress Tisca Chopra and this is her first feature film. This film is being released today i.e. on 12 December 2025 on ZEE5. This film has already received a lot of appreciation at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa and Chicago South Asian Film Festival. Radhika’s character in this film with a deep and mysterious atmosphere is being said to be very powerful and people are saying that this will be one of the most brilliant performances of her career. So Radhika Apte, who has expressed concern over the increasing trend of violence, is now coming up with a film which will both thrill and force you to think.

‘Dhurandhar’ is also one of them

The films mentioned by Radhika also include many big budget films released recently. For example, Ranveer Singh’s film ‘Dhurandhar’ is also being counted among the films that glorify the world of extreme violence and gangster-crime. In the trailer itself, bullets are fired continuously, people are killed, rivers of blood are shown flowing. Radhika Apte is very clear in saying, ‘Such films are normalizing violence in the name of entertainment. Do we want to teach our children that power means guns and blood? Films like ‘Dhurandhar’ are part of exactly this trend about which Radhika is so worried.
