The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has recently warned citizens that it is extremely important to adopt some digital measures to avoid incidents like sudden heavy rain, hailstorm, thunderstorm and extreme temperatures. Experts say that in these circumstances, having some selected apps on the smartphone can not only provide timely alerts, but the risk can also be reduced by making proper preparations.
IMD has recommended four such apps which should be in the phone of every citizen. Through these apps you can get real-time weather information, warnings, emergency contacts and safe guidance.
1. IMD Weather App
The official app of Indian Meteorological Department is the most trusted source. This app gives timely warnings of rain, temperature, wind speed, storm and hailstorm for the entire country. Apart from this, this app also sends real-time updates with weather forecast. According to experts, this app not only provides general weather information but also provides red alerts in emergency situations, thereby increasing the chances of safety of life and property.
2. Google Weather or AccuWeather
Trusted international apps like Google Weather and AccuWeather provide detailed information along with local weather data. These not only provide information about temperature and rainfall, but also provide hourly updates, wind direction and accurate forecast. IMD recommends that these apps be used for spatial weather comparison and additional alerts.
3. Disaster Alert Apps (NDMA or Bharat Disaster Management)
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and related apps of the Government of India provide citizens with timely information about earthquakes, floods, storms and other natural disasters. These apps also provide information on emergency numbers, evacuation routes, and safe locations. Having such apps is considered very important especially for people living in rural and disaster prone areas.
4. Local Alerts and Emergency Apps
Many states and municipalities have launched local alert apps for their citizens. These apps not only send weather but also timely information like road closures, waterlogging, traffic updates and health warnings. Users can be instantly aware of disasters occurring in their area through GPS and location based alerts.
