Income Tax Notice: Before the year changes, change your luck and complete these important tasks by 31st December.
News India Live, Digital Desk: We Indians have an old habit of postponing every work till the last date. “Hey, there are still a lot of days left” we keep sitting thinking this and then finally the website starts crashing and we get tensed. But Bhaisaab, this time do not take the deadline of 31st December lightly, because this is a matter directly related to your pocket. Here is the list that you have to check now:1. Don’t forget to file belated ITR (Most important!) If you are one of those people who forgot to file your Income Tax Return (ITR) by the July deadline, then this is your ‘last chance’. You can file ‘Belated ITR’ till December 31. But wait, it’s not free! You may have to pay penalty for late filing of return. If your income is more than Rs 5 lakh, a penalty of up to Rs 5,000 can be imposed. If you miss even 31st December, then understand that the opportunity to file this year’s return is gone and notice from Income Tax Department may also come home. So, if you want to save Rs 5000 then file today.2. Adding Nomination in Demat and BankDo you invest money in stock market or mutual funds? If yes, and you have not yet added the name of ‘Nominee’ in your Demat Account or Mutual Fund, then be careful. Market regulator SEBI has made it clear that if nomination is not made within the time limit, your Demat account may be frozen. This means that you will neither be able to sell shares nor withdraw your money. This rule has become very important for bank lockers and bank accounts also. So brother, why take risk? It will just take 5 minutes, go online and update the nominee.3. Free Aadhaar Update: If your Aadhaar card is 10 years old and you have not updated your information (like address or identity) in it, then now UIDAI is giving you this facility for free. Often this free deadline ends in December (although the dates extend, but do not take the risk). After the deadline, even for a small update, you will have to pay Rs 50 or more from your pocket. So take advantage of the free service and update it by visiting the nearest center or online. What to do? (Pro Tip) Friends, there is a lot of rush on the last date. Servers of Income Tax and other government websites may be down. Therefore, it is wise not to wait for 31st December and open your laptop or call CA today itself.
