Central government preparing to change the name of ‘MNREGA’! Will now be known as ‘Pujya Bapu Rural Employment Scheme’
MNREGA: Three big and important decisions are likely to be approved in the Union Cabinet meeting. In these, the name of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) can be changed. The new name of this scheme could be ‘Pujya Bapu Rural Employment Scheme’. Apart from this, Atomic Energy Bill and Higher Education Bill may also get cabinet approval.

MNREGA was introduced during the UPA government of Manmohan Singh, the Act was passed on 23 August 2005 and was implemented in February 2006. Which was initiated by the Ministry of Rural Development and with the support of Left parties it became a major social welfare law, which guarantees 100 days of employment to rural families. It was initially called the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005.
