Six minors safe, mastermind arrested
Amidst the ever increasing cases of human trafficking in long distance trains Howrah–Mumbai Express A big racket running in Howrah-Mumbai Express Trafficking has been exposed. The joint team of RPF, GRP and Child Helpline took action and recovered six minor children safely.
All the children are said to be residents of Kolkata, whose age is between 12 to 16 years. This action is not only being considered a major success, but also highlights the growing threat of human trafficking on the railway route.
According to preliminary information, smuggler Firoz Mandal was taking these children from Howrah to Mumbai. To protect the children from suspicion, they were made to sit in separate coaches (Howrah-Mumbai Express Trafficking). Based on the information, the team conducted a thorough investigation in the train and took out the children hidden in the coaches. During interrogation, it was revealed that the children were being taken for illegal labor in a factory in Malad area of Mumbai.
During the arrest, the main accused Firoz Mandal was caught from the spot, while two-three of his associates escaped taking advantage of the darkness. Police teams are now conducting raids (Howrah-Mumbai Express Trafficking) in search of absconding smugglers. Child Helpline has taken all the children under protection and the process of contacting the family members has been started.
GRP has registered an FIR in the case under sections of human trafficking. Officials say it could be an organized gang, which uses railway routes to send children to big cities for forced labor. The investigation team is thoroughly investigating the network, associates and possible targets of this racket.
