Sunil Gavaskar: Delhi High Court has given a big order to remove the name, pictures and material abusing the personal rights of India’s great batsman Sunil Gavaskar. The court on Friday directed Google, Meta and X to remove this content immediately. The order comes following a complaint by Gavaskar, in which he had sought protection from unauthorized use of his identity on major online platforms.

Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora’s bench made it clear that this order has specifically listed the content which violates Gavaskar’s personal and public image. The court has also determined the procedure for action.

The court has directed Gavaskar to provide the objectionable specific URLs to these companies within 48 hours. Once the URL is received, the platform must take action and remove the content within a week.

What was the fake content?

Fake and critical comments made in the name of Gavaskar about India’s men’s cricket coach Gautam Gambhir and other players. Merchandise and photographs bearing fake autographs were being sold online, for which people were being charged money, but which had no link to Gavaskar.
