Detailed discussion on ‘Just Transition’ in coal areas, emphasis on concrete steps for renewable energy expansion in the state
Raipur News: Researchers from the international organization International Institute of Sustainable Development (IISD) and Swaniti Initiative met Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai at the Chief Minister’s residence in the capital Raipur. During this, the Chief Minister released their detailed study report “Mapping India’s State Level Energy Transition: Chhattisgarh”. Chief Minister Sai discussed in detail with the researchers the strategies of the Chhattisgarh government towards the spread of renewable energy, energy security, and sustainable development in the state. He said that the government is continuously making efforts to encourage innovations related to solar energy, green hydrogen and energy efficiency in the state.

Researchers presented Chief Minister Sai a comprehensive index based on the ‘Energy Transition Vulnerability’ of India’s 52 coal-producing districts, highlighting the need for a ‘just transition’—an economically, socially and environmentally just transition—in traditional coal-based regions. Researchers said that this index is an important indicator of future challenges, employment structure, and alternative livelihood opportunities in old coal regions. On this occasion, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Subodh Kumar Singh and Energy Department Secretary Shri Rohit Yadav were present.
