You may be surprised to know but this dish has become very popular in many parts of India. On cold days, this steaming hot dish gives a different comfort to the mind. If you have never eaten this dish before, this time you can make it at home and enjoy it. Apart from being tasty, this dish is also healthy as it is cooked with steam instead of oil. Siddu is made in many ways. But today we are going to tell you the recipe of Mansoor Siddu. Let’s know the ingredients and steps required for this.

Materials for making Siddu

  • Wheat flour – 2 cups (250 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon of yeast
  • Salt to taste
  • Udid dal – half a cup
  • Ghee – 2 or 3 tbsp
  • Water as needed

Ingredients for stuffing

  • Urad dal – 1/2 cup
  • Onion – 1 finely chopped
  • green coriander
  • Asafoetida – a pinch
  • Turmeric powder – half teaspoon
  • Red chillies 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger – 1 inch piece
  • Green Chillies – 2-3
  • Salt to taste

  • To make siddu first of all combine flour, salt and yeast in a bowl and mix well. Add little water and knead the dough well.
  • Cover the kneaded dough and keep it aside for 1 hour. By doing this, the dough will rise and double in size.
  • Now heat some oil in a pan for stuffing. Add chopped onion, green chillies, ginger and fennel and saute. Add coriander leaves and spices and mix well.
  • Grind all these ingredients with masoor dal in a mixer. Place the mixture in a plate and let it cool.
  • Now, to make siddu, make big balls of dough. Fill each ball with the prepared dal stuffing and shape it like an oval siddu.
  • No need to use oil to cook it. It is steamed, so heat the water in the steamer.
  • Place the siddu in the steamer, cover and let it cook for 15-20 minutes.
  • Once the siddu is cooked, apply ghee or oil and serve hot.
  • Siddu is a dish served with mint chutney or red chili chutney for dipping.
