Kitchen Hack: Keep eggs in the fridge or outside? Know the right rules, otherwise your good health may get spoiled.

News India Live, Digital Desk: The cold of December (like today 12th December) along with hot boiled eggs or omelette combination is great. Most of us buy a whole crate from the market and keep it in the fridge or in a corner of the kitchen. Many times they remain stored for weeks. But the real fear comes when we break the egg and the confusion comes in our mind, “Hey, is this okay? Has it gone bad?” A stale egg not only spoils the taste, but it can also give you bacteria like Salmonella and serious food poisoning. So, today we will tell you those indigenous and easy methods by which you will find out without breaking whether the egg is fit to eat or to go in the dustbin. 1. The surest method: The Water Float Test: This method has been used since the time of our grandmothers and science also accepts it. All you need is a glass tumbler and some water. How to: Fill a glass with water and gently drop the egg into it. Result: If the egg sinks: Congratulations! The egg is absolutely fresh. You can eat it safely. If it stands up: If the egg is submerged, but is floating at the bottom, then understand that it is old, but can still be eaten (just cook it properly and eat it). If it starts floating on top: alarm bells! This egg has gone bad. Throw it away immediately. (This happens because the egg gets filled with air as it gets older).2. Shake Test: Take the egg near your ear and shake it lightly. If you hear a sloshing sound from inside, then understand that the egg is getting spoiled. In fresh eggs the yolk and white do not move, they are tightly set.3. Should eggs be washed? (A big mistake) We Indians like cleanliness, so after bringing eggs from the market, we wash them and keep them in the refrigerator. Friends, never make this mistake! Reason: There is a natural protective bloom on the egg, which protects it from bacteria. Washing removes that shell and allows fridge bacteria to enter through the holes in the eggshell. Right method: Store the eggs as they arrived. Wash just before cooking.4. In the fridge or outside? Which is the right place? Often people are confused. If you finish the eggs in a day or two, it is fine to keep them outside in winter. But if you are storing for a week, then the refrigerator is the safest place. Remember one thing, the temperature should not change. That is, once the egg is placed in the refrigerator, do not take it out and leave it back at room temperature for hours. What about the expiration date? Generally, a fresh egg remains good in the refrigerator for about 3 to 5 weeks after packing. Check the date written on the carton, but trust your nose and eyes most of all. If there is a foul smell when you break it, then throw it away without thinking. Health comes first, friends. Next time before making omelette, do this ‘water test’!
