Zack Snyder & James Gunn’s Zombie Movie Coming to Netflix
Zack Snyder and James Gunn’s Dawn of the Dead is set to begin streaming on Netflix soon, bringing the 2004 zombie thriller back into the spotlight. Once the film makes its way to the platform, zombie movie fans once again get a chance to revisit one of the most influential remakes in the genre.
Dawn of the Dead begins streaming on Netflix in January 2026
Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead is set to begin streaming on Netflix in the new year. According to What’s on Netflixthe 2004 remake will become available on January 1, 2026. The release brings the 2004 remake, written by James Gunn, back to a major streaming platform.
The story begins with Ana, a nurse finishing a routine shift, returning home after an ordinary evening. However, the next day, her life collapses when her husband is attacked by a neighbor who has turned into a violent zombie without warning. She quickly flees her neighborhood, which has already been overtaken by the infected zombies. Ana soon encounters police officer Kenneth Hall and a handful of other survivors, taking refuge in a nearby mall, believing it may offer temporary safety. As days pass and more people arrive, the group confronts growing uncertainty and limited resources.
The film features Sarah Polley as Ana Clark and Ving Rhames as Sergeant Kenneth Hall. It also includes Jake Weber as Michael Shaunessy, Mekhi Phifer as Andre, and Ty Burrell as Steve Markus, among other supporting cast members.
On Rotten Tomatoesthe film currently holds a 77 percent Tomatometer rating from 192 critic reviews. Antonia Quirke of The Standard wrote, “It is ferocious and young and exciting, and rather like the terrific 28 Days Later but without the overwhelming sense of dread or Christopher Eccleston in uniform.”
Upon release, Dawn of the Dead earned a solid critical response and strong box-office results. It collected more than $102 million globally, including over $59 million in domestic theaters. (via Box Office Mojo)
