Keshav Maharaj Appointed as Pretoria Capitals Captain For SA20 2026 Season

Pretoria Capitals announce Keshav Maharaj as captain of their SA20 2026 squad on December 12, witnessing a shift in the leadership role.

He will be replacing Rilee Rossouw, who was released by the team ahead of the auction, moved to Joburg Super Kings for R 5,00,000, while Maharaj joined Capitals for R 1.7 million.

Speaking on his appointment, Pretoria Capitals said, “Maharaj brings a wealth of international pedigree across formats, along with a proven track record of guiding teams with composure, clarity and intent.”

“Having captained South Africa in white-ball cricket and served as a senior figure within the national setup for several years, Maharaj’s leadership experience, tactical understanding and consistency make him an invaluable addition in this role,” said a statement.

“His presence strengthens the balance and direction of the Pretoria Capitals squad as the team heads into the new season,” said the Pretoria Capitals statement.

Keshav Maharaj was one of the side’s biggest buys in the auction, where they also acquired Lungi Ngidi, Lizaad Williams, Craig Overton, Saqib Mahmood and Codi Yusuf, among others.

Among spinners, Keshav Maharaj is the second-highest wicket-taker in the SA20, with 27 wickets in the 33 matches he played for Super Giants.

Andre Russell, who retired as a player from the IPL before signing on as Kolkata Knight Riders power coach, joined the side on a wildcard while Will Jacks and Sherfane Rutherford were their pre-acquisitionThe signings.

The Capitals have made a major change in the support staff with Sourav Ganguly taking over as head coach, replacing Jonathan Trott, and will be assisted by Shaun Pollock.

The SA20 2026 season begins on December 26 with MI Cape Town facing Durban Super Giants.

Pretoria Capitals will play their first game against Durban Super Giants on 03 January at SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium, Centurion.
