Mumbai, 12 December. On the basis of positive signals from the global markets, the domestic stock market remained bullish for the second consecutive day and both the standard indices closed with good gains on Friday, the last day of the trading week, amid heavy buying in metal stocks. In this sequence, while BSE Sensex crossed 85,000 with a gain of 449 points, NSE Nifty also rose by 148 points and stood above the level of 26,000.
Sensex rose 449.53 points, closed at 85267.66 points
Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)’s benchmark index Sensex based on 30 shares closed at 85,267.66 points with a gain of 449.53 points or 0.53 per cent. At one time during trading it had climbed 502.69 points to reach 85,320.82. Among Sensex related companies, shares of 21 strengthened while shares of eight remained weak.
Nifty closed at 26046.95 with an increase of 148.40 points.
On the other hand, Nifty, the standard index based on 50 shares of National Stock Exchange (NSE) also strengthened by 148.40 points or 0.57 percent and closed at 26,046.95 points. Among Nifty related companies, shares of 35 remained in the green and 15 registered a decline. In the broader market, BSE Midcap index closed 1.14 percent higher, while BSE Smallcap index saw a rise of 0.65 percent.

Amid good growth in the market, the total market capitalization of BSE listed companies increased to Rs 470.25 lakh crore, which was Rs 466.64 lakh crore on the previous trading day. In this way, the market cap of companies listed in BSE increased by about Rs 3.61 lakh crore. In other words, investors’ wealth increased by about Rs 3.61 lakh crore.
Tata Steel stocks rose the most by 3.34 percent
Among the companies included in Sensex, Tata Steel’s stock rose the most by 3.34 percent. Eternal, UltraTech Cement, L&T, Maruti and Bharti Airtel were also the major gainers. On the other hand, shares of Hindustan Unilever, Sun Pharma, ITC and Asian Paints declined.
FIIs made net sale of shares worth Rs 2,020.94 crore
According to stock market data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) made a net sale of shares worth Rs 2,020.94 crore on Thursday. However, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) supported the market with net purchases of Rs 3,796.07 crore. Brent crude, the international oil benchmark, fell 0.05 percent to $61.25 a barrel.
