Government Data Reveals Mild Uptick In Retail Inflation Driven By Vegetables And Fuel

India witnessed a marginal increase in retail inflation during November as the figure rose to 0.71 percent from the record low of 0.25 percent recorded in October despite this uptick the inflation rate remained the second lowest since January and stayed well within the comfortable range for the third consecutive month official data released by the National Statistical Office indicates that the slight surge was largely attributed to a hardening of prices in vegetables eggs meat and spices along with an increase in fuel and light costs the consumer food price index continued to show deflationary trends at minus 3.91 percent although the rate of decline slowed down compared to the previous month analysts note that while the headline number has moved up slightly the overall inflationary pressure remains subdued which provides significant relief to the Reserve Bank of India in maintaining its current policy stance the data highlights that vegetable prices although lower than last year saw a smaller decline in November helping to push the overall index upwards marginall
