Does quitting rice really reduce weight? Know the expert’s opinion

People who want to lose weight often think that removing rice from their diet will yield results. Rice, which is a staple of the Indian diet, especially white rice, is often considered a major source of calories and carbohydrates. But does not eating rice really cause weight loss?

Diet and nutrition experts say that giving up just one thing is not enough to lose weight. The main principle of weight loss is calories in and calories out. That means if you reduce calorie consumption or spend more, weight will decrease. The only benefit of giving up rice may be to reduce your total calories a bit. But if you are eating more carbohydrates or calorie-rich things, there will not be much difference in weight.

White rice contains mainly simple carbohydrates, which raise blood sugar quickly and do not keep you feeling full for long. Therefore, many people get help in weight loss by reducing their intake. Whereas brown rice or whole grain rice has more fiber, which helps in digestion and controls appetite.

Experts say that it is not necessary to give up rice. Instead, consuming rice in balanced quantity and keeping track of calories is a better option. For example, taking rice in small portions and eating it with vegetables or pulses provides essential nutrition to the body and also keeps weight under control.

Apart from this, just focusing on diet is not enough for weight loss. Exercise, adequate sleep and reducing stress are equally important. Simply changing your food habits by giving up rice may not be effective in reducing weight permanently.
