Firing during examination at Island’s Brown University, two dead, eight injured

According to CBS News report, police officials said that the shooting took place at Brown University on Saturday afternoon. At an evening press conference, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said he received a report of shots fired at the Baras & Hawley Engineering Building shortly after 4 p.m. local time.

At least two people were killed and eight others were taken to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition, Smiley said. Smiley said the death toll could rise. No arrests have been made in this regard yet. Providence Deputy Police Chief Tim O’Hara said that no weapon has been recovered from the spot. The only description given by eyewitnesses of the suspect was that he was a man wearing black clothes.

The university’s security services department initially reported that a suspect had been taken into custody. But that statement was later withdrawn. President Donald Trump wrote in a Truth Social post that he was informed about the shooting. Trump has expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families.
