Deepak Hooda continues to feature on the BCCI’s list of players with suspect bowling actions, with the board formally notifying IPL franchises just three days before the December 16 mini-auction. The 30-year-old all-rounder, who represents Rajasthan in domestic cricket, was also under the suspect-action category during the previous IPL season.
Hooda, who bowls part-time off-spin, played seven matches for Chennai Super Kings last season but did not bowl a single delivery. However, he has bowled six overs in domestic cricket since then — one in the Ranji Trophy and five in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His most recent outing came on December 8 against Jharkhand in Ahmedabad, where he delivered three overs and picked up 3 for 24.
If Hooda is reported again for a suspect action, he faces the risk of being barred from bowling in the IPL. Despite the classification, he will enter the Abu Dhabi auction in the AL1 all-rounder category with a base price of Rs 75 lakh. The AL1 set also includes names such as Venkatesh Iyer, Wanindu Hasaranga and Rachin Ravindra.
Abid Mushtaq of Jammu & Kashmir is the only other player currently under the suspect-action list. The 29-year-old left-arm spinner enters the auction with a base price of Rs 30 lakh. Meanwhile, KL Shrijith (Karnataka) and Rishabh Chauhan (Madhya Pradesh) remain banned from bowling in the IPL after previous violations.
The updated status comes as franchises refine their auction strategies, particularly for all-rounders likely to play multi-dimensional roles.
