New York, 14 December. President Donald Trump has taken a tough stance after the death of three people, including two American soldiers, who were part of the operation against the Islamic State. American soldiers lost their lives during terrorist attack in Syria. After this, President Trump has warned that very serious revenge will be taken. President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post that three soldiers were also injured in the attack on Saturday.
They wrote, “We mourn the loss of three American patriots in Syria, including two servicemen and a civilian interpreter. Likewise, we pray for the three wounded servicemen, who have just been confirmed to be OK. This was an attack by ISIS on the US and Syria. It took place in a very dangerous part of Syria, which is not entirely under the control of his government. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa is outraged and troubled by this attack. “Very serious revenge will be taken.”
The attack on US personnel in the restive region torn by terrorist organizations and civil war is a serious challenge to US cooperation with Ahmed al-Sharaa, who came to power after Bashar al-Assad was ousted from power in December last year. It is also a test for the government of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, as according to a government spokesman, the alleged attacker was a member of Damascus government forces. Trump also admitted that the area is not completely under the control of Damascus.
The government spokesman also said the US ignored warnings about the danger in Palmyra, where the attack took place, according to Syrian state news agency SANA. He said the attacker has been ‘neutralised’. These were the first deaths in Syria after al-Assad was removed from power. The victims were members of the US Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) against the terrorist organization formally known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Ash-Sham (ISIS).
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell described the US mission as “supporting ongoing ISIS and counter-terrorism operations.” He said the attack occurred while the soldiers were negotiating with a prominent leader. Media reports quoted Syrian government spokesman Nooruddin al-Baba as saying that the terrorist who fired on American troops was a member of Syrian government forces.
But according to the SANA report, he said the attacker did not play any leadership role in internal security and was not an escort of the internal security commander. However, the attacker was already under investigation over whether his ideology was “extremist”, with a verdict expected on Sunday.
