Names of 25 people from Muslim families changed in SIR form, biggest discrepancy revealed from Ghazipur

Ghazipur: Currently, the process of Special Intensive Review (SIR) is going on by the Election Commission of India across the country. The last date of this ongoing exercise aimed at correcting and updating the voter list has recently been extended by two weeks. Earlier this process was to be completed by December 11, but now voters have been given additional time. In this SIR campaign, the voter list of the year 2003 has been considered as the basis, that is, the verification is considered to be relatively easy for the citizens whose names are registered in the voter list of 2003.

Shocking disturbance revealed in Ghazipur

In the midst of this SIR process, a serious flaw has come to light from Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, which has raised questions on the transparency of the entire process. Here, despite the names of about 25 members of the same family being registered in the voter list of 2003, SIR is not being completed. The family alleges that the name in the form is correct, but during online mapping, the name of another person is visible, due to which their verification is stuck.

Case of booth level agent’s family

This matter is related to booth number 208, where Armaan Ali’s family resides. The special thing is that Armaan Ali himself is also a Booth Level Agent (BLA). All his family members have been living at the same address for years and their names are also registered in the voter list of 2003. SIR forms were also provided to him by the BLO. All the family members filled the forms by matching them with the old records and submitted them on time.

Name shown in mapping, but someone else’s

The problem came to light when the booth level officer started mapping the forms. The names entered in the form were correct, but during mapping in the system, names of other people started appearing in place of family members. The surprising thing was that the names whose mapping was visible were not related to the concerned family. After this disturbance, the family’s SIR was stopped, due to which they are continuously troubled.

Samajwadi Party raised the matter

The victim’s family reached the district office of Samajwadi Party regarding this problem. There District President Gopal Yadav and party’s national spokesperson Shaurya Singh listened to his complaint seriously. After this, both the leaders talked to Additional Election Officer Dinesh Kumar about this matter and gave information about the entire matter. Intervention was sought from officials so that voter verification of the family could be completed on time.

Additional Election Officer’s assurance

Additional Election Officer Dinesh Kumar called the family to his office with a written complaint and after understanding the problem, assured that it would be rectified soon. He said that in some rare cases such technical glitches come to light during the SIR process. There is an option to edit data for such voters, through which mistakes can be corrected.

Refusal to discriminate on the basis of religion

The officer also clarified that religion is not taken into account in the process of mapping or verification. He admitted that a similar problem had come to light at one or two booths in Saidpur assembly constituency, which was later rectified. He says that if there has been any technical or human error, it will be rectified and the SIR of all eligible voters will be completed.
