Dortmund’s win slipped while playing with ten players, 1-1 draw with Freiburg

Fribourg. Borussia Dortmund were held to a 1-1 draw against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday. After the red card of Jobe Bellingham at the beginning of the second half, Dortmund had to suffer a heavy loss and the team lost the lead by conceding a goal in the 75th minute. With this draw, Dortmund missed the chance to reach second place.

Dortmund completely dominated the first half of the match. The team missed several golden opportunities and in the 21st minute, Carnie Chukwuemeka’s shot hit the post. Finally, in the 31st minute, Rami Bensebaini scored from close range to give Dortmund a 1-0 lead.

However, the match changed in the 53rd minute when Jobe Bellingham was shown a red card for a foul on Phillip True as the last man out. The foul occurred after an incorrect pass by goalkeeper Gregor Köbel.

Taking advantage of having one more player, Freiburg increased the pressure. True’s curling shot went wide in the 64th minute, while Kobel tipped Yuito Suzuki’s shot onto the bar in the 73rd. But in the 75th minute, Lucas Hollar, after excellent control, hit a volley and placed the ball in the top corner to make the score 1-1.

Freiburg scored another goal in the final moments of the match, but it was ruled offside.

After this draw, Dortmund are in third place with 29 points and are on the same points as second-placed RB Leipzig, which suffered a 1-3 defeat to Union Berlin on Friday. Bayern Munich remain at the top with 37 points and can extend their lead further when they play against Mainz 05 on Sunday.
