Cancer causing chemicals in eggs! Here in Kashmir, Priagold Biscuit and Packaged Drinking Water brand is banned: Big decision of Food Safety Department.

Taking a major decision, the Food Safety Department in Jammu and Kashmir banned the batch of Priagold Butter Delight biscuits in which sulphite levels were found to be more than the prescribed limit, while a separate inspection drive was also started to check the residual quantities of banned drugs in eggs. The ban comes just after the egg scare, when a viral video claimed that eggs could contain cancer-causing chemicals. After which health concerns increased among people.

Food safety officer issued order

According to an order issued from the office of Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Department, Anantnag, batch number E25KPO2FB of Priyagold Butter Delight Biscuit failed the lab analysis at the National Food Laboratory, Ghaziabad. The batch has been declared unsafe and its sale has been banned until further orders.

Officials said the biscuits could pose a health risk and have ordered all units of the batch to be withdrawn from the market. Calling the product ‘unsafe’ and asking for immediate administrative action. Officials said that manufacturing or selling such unsafe food items is a violation of Section 3(1)(zz)(xi) of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006.

Ban on batch sale, storage and distribution

Using the powers under Section 36(3)(b) of the Act, Sheikh Zameer Ahmed, Designated Officer, Food Safety, Anantnag, issued an order, banning the sale, storage and distribution of this batch in the entire district. The order states that all wholesalers, retailers and shopkeepers have been instructed to immediately remove this batch from their shops and said that it is necessary to strictly follow it.

The Food Safety Department has also banned the sale, storage, distribution and display of Ajwa packaged drinking water in Srinagar district after samples tested at the National Food Testing Laboratory in Ghaziabad were found to be contaminated with E. coli and coliform bacteria. In an order issued by the Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Srinagar, it has been said that this ban will be in force with immediate effect and till further instructions.
