IPL Auction 2026: Is Mumbai Indians’ Rs 2.75 crore the smallest purse in IPL auction history?
Mumbai Indians will enter the IPL 2026 auction on December 16 with the tightest budget of any franchise. The five-time champion has just Rs. 2.75 crore left in its purse, the lowest remaining amount among all 10 teams, and five slots to fill, including one overseas position.
MI’s constrained position eclipses the previous record for the smallest purse at an IPL auction, surpassing Chennai Super Kings’ Rs. 4.8 crore balance ahead of the 2015 auction.
A total of 359 players will be available at the IPL 2026 mini-auction, comprising 16 capped Indian cricketers and 99 capped overseas players. Franchises can register a maximum squad size of 25 players and must maintain a minimum of 18, with no more than eight overseas players allowed.
Unlike mega auctions, teams will not have access to the Right to Match card, as RTM options are not permitted in mini-auctions.
