UIDAI Aadhaar App: Recently the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new Aadhaar app, which makes digital identification secure and easy. This app works like a lightweight and profile-centric digital wallet for Aadhaar. In such a situation, let us know how to download and use this useful app.
The new Aadhaar app has these features
This new Aadhaar app prioritizes both security and convenience, with modern features like face authentication, biometric lock, QR code and offline access. Despite these new features, UIDAI has also maintained its old and reliable security systems like OTP-based verification. All these features are aimed at enhancing user convenience and providing individuals with better control over their digital identity.
What can the new Aadhaar app do?
Multi-Profile Management: A maximum of five Aadhaar profiles can be added to a single device through the new Aadhaar app. For that, all Aadhaar should be linked to the same registered mobile number.
Face Authentication: After OTP verification, a live scan of the user’s face is taken, which is matched with the photo stored in the UIDAI database. This step ensures that no other person can setup the Aadhaar profile fraudulently, thereby increasing the security manifold.
Biometric Lock and Unlock: Users can secure their Aadhaar profile in the app using fingerprint or face lock. Biometrics and PIN are required as an additional layer of security to unlock the profile.
Limited information sharing: Users can choose whether to provide complete Aadhaar information or only the necessary information. The app also has the facility of contactless verification through QR code.
Offline Access: Once the profile is successfully set up and verified, users can view their Aadhaar profile even without internet connectivity. This offline feature makes work easier even in areas where network is not available. Especially in forested and rural areas.
Usage and Authentication History: Apart from this, the app has an activity log, so you can see when and where your Aadhaar card was used.

Download and verify new Aadhaar like this
- To download the new Aadhaar app, first of all open your phone’s Google Play Store or Apple App Store and search for the official “Aadhaar” app of UIDAI and download or install it.
- After this, open the app and start the registration process by choosing the language of your choice.
- Then enter the 12 digit Aadhar number of your Aadhar card correctly.
- As soon as you enter the Aadhaar number, UIDAI will send an OTP to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. Confirm the mobile number by entering that OTP.
- After this the app will ask you to do a live face scan. This scan is matched with your photo available with UIDAI, so that no one else can setup your Aadhaar wrongly.
- After face authentication, you will have to create a six-digit security PIN. This PIN will be the main password to open your Aadhaar profile in the app.
- To further strengthen security, you can turn on your phone’s fingerprint or face unlock option. This facility will work only after PIN and does not replace the face authentication done at the time of registration.
