Eight months after the Pahalgam attack, the National Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet in a Jammu court. According to information received, the NIA has implicated the names of Pakistan-based terrorist handlers in this high-profile case. These include Lashkar-e-Taiba’s top terrorist handlers, Saifullah Kasuri, Hafiz Saeed and Talha Syed.
On 22 April 2025, three armed terrorists opened fire in Pahalgam’s Baizan Valley. In which 26 people died. The terrorists first asked the tourists about their religion and killed them when they identified themselves as Hindus. Baizan Khore is a popular tourist destination, where tourists used to spend holidays. The attackers were armed with M4 carbines and AK-47s. The Resistance Front (TRF), a faction of Lashkar-e-Taiba, initially claimed responsibility for the attack, but later retracted its claim.

The Modi government has handed over the investigation into the attack to the NIA. who has now filed a chargesheet. In June this year, the Army arrested two persons who harbored terrorists. In July, Operation Mahadev was launched, in which terrorists involved in the attack were killed. Parvez Ahmed, a resident of Batkot, and Bashir Jothar of Pahalgam were arrested by the NIA. The attackers identified themselves as Pakistanis associated with the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Additionally, during the investigation, the NIA arrested three terrorist associates from the Kashmir Valley. These include Parvez Ahmed Jothar and Bashir Ahmed Jothar, two brothers from Anantnag district.

Another terrorist associate, Mohammad Yusuf Kataria, who is accused of supplying mobile phones and chargers to terrorists before Operation Mahadev, has also been arrested. The names of all the six accused present in Jammu and Kashmir have been included in the charge sheet. Moreover, the names of terrorist masterminds of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir have also been included in the charge sheet. This is the first chargesheet filed by the NIA in the Pahalgam terror attack case after nearly 180 days of intensive investigation. More revelations are expected in the coming days as the investigation progresses, after which the NIA may file a supplementary chargesheet.
