India became the first Asian country to become the winner by defeating Hong Kong in the Squash World Cup final.

Chennai. The Indian team has created history by winning the Squash World Cup title for the first time. India defeated Hong Kong 3-0 in the final in a one-sided manner and succeeded in becoming the champion. With this, India has become the first country in Asia to win the Squash World Cup. India performed brilliantly in this global tournament and succeeded in becoming the winner.

Historic day for Indian squash
India’s previous best performance in the World Cup was to win a bronze medal in 2023. India, however, overcame every hurdle this time and dominated. This title win is certainly good news for Indian squash as the sport is set to make its Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028. The Indian team’s performance in the mixed team event was excellent.

India won the title without losing any match
India, seeded second in the tournament, won the title without losing any match. After defeating Switzerland and Brazil by identical 4–0 margins in the group stage, India defeated South Africa and two-time champions Egypt 3–0 in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively. Joshna Chinappa, ranked 79th in the world, gave India a great start in the final with a 3-1 upset win over 37th ranked player Li Ka Yi.

Asian Games medalist Abhay Singh (29 in the world ranking) defeated 42nd ranked Alex Lau 3-0, while 17-year-old Anahat Singh defeated Tomato Ho, ranked 31 in the world ranking, by the same margin to seal the title for India.
