Blundell is New Zealand’s first choice for wicketkeeping. He suffered a hamstring injury during the first Test match, due to which he was ruled out of the second Test. In his place, Mitchell Hay, who made his Test debut in the second match, will now play for Catenbury in domestic cricket. Mitchell batted brilliantly in that match and scored a half-century.
Patel played his last Test in November 2024 and was declared player of the match in that match. For the first time since February 2020, he can be seen playing a Test match in New Zealand.
Apart from these two, the rest of the team for the third Test is the same which played in the second Test match held in Wellington. After the first Test match ended in a draw, New Zealand made a brilliant comeback in the second Test and took a 1-0 lead in the series. The third and last Test match of the series will be played at the Bay Oval Stadium in Mount Maunganui from 18 December.
