During the discussion on election reforms in Rajya Sabha on Monday during the winter session of Parliament, the opposition launched a fierce attack and raised sharp questions at the ruling party and the Election Commission. On the other hand, on behalf of JDS, former PM HD Deve Gowda told the opposition parties that if they continue with their allegations of vote theft, they will have to bear the loss. He said that the opposition people are making fun of the Prime Minister on the streets and on many forums. He said that when Congress leaders Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had got a huge majority, the opposition had never done this to them. He also said that there were anomalies in the electoral process even during the time of Pandit Nehru.

BRS’s R Suresh Reddy said that not fulfilling the promises made in the election manifesto is a fraud on the voters. He said that his party BRS demands reforms in the anti-defection law.

However, while answering the question of opposition MPs, JDU MP Sanjay Jha gave the example of 2005 Bihar Assembly elections and said that at that time there was a fractured mandate in the Assembly. He said that Nitish Kumar had also got support to form the government. But after this, the UPA government led by the then PM Manmohan Singh at the Center imposed President’s rule in the state through a cabinet meeting held at midnight. He sarcastically said that no MLA took the oath. Those former MLAs are not called former MLAs but are called unprecedented MLAs because they could not take oath.

BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya, referring to an old speech of former PM Manmohan Singh, said that India is against illegal immigration, no matter from where. He said that illegal immigration should not be encouraged. MP Kapil Sibal said that BJP itself brings reforms and then violates them.
There should not be one nation, one election, one party, one outcome. Union Minister Arjun Meghwal targeted Congress, saying that Ambedkar had lost in the by-election of Bhandara in 1954. At that time he had lost to Congress and now Congress is using his name.
