Kolkata. After conducting SIR, the Election Commission is going to release the draft voter list in West Bengal today. According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, there will not be more than 58 lakh names in the draft voter list of the state. This is likely to heat up politics there. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has already said that if the name of even one eligible voter is removed, she will stage a protest. At the same time, BJP has been continuously alleging that Mamata Banerjee has made Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingya her vote bank. There are assembly elections in West Bengal next year. Because of this the issue of infiltrators has become heated.

According to West Bengal State Election Commission, after SIR, names of a total of 5820898 people in the state will not be in the draft voter list. These include 2416852 dead voters, 1220038 missing voters, 1988076 voters who have permanently shifted to other places and 138328 fake voters. Names of 57604 people who did not fill the SIR form will not be there in the draft voter list of West Bengal. Before SIR, the Election Commission had said that there were 76637529 voters in West Bengal. After deletion of names, the draft voter list being released will now contain names of only 70816631 voters.

At the same time, according to Subrata Gupta, the special observer appointed to look after the SIR in West Bengal, despite the names of more than 58 lakh voters being deleted, errors have also been found in the SIR forms of 1.36 crore voters. These will be thoroughly investigated. Those who have doubts will be called for hearing if necessary. The Election Commission in West Bengal had earlier decided to release the draft voter list on December 11, but later extended the deadline for SIR by 7 days.
