The Vietnam national women’s football team have been rewarded with a big bonus from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) after securing a spot in the gold medal match at the 33rd SEA Games.
Following a dominant 5-0 victory over Indonesia in the semi-final on Sunday in Chonburi, Thailand, the VFF announced a bonus of VND500 million (US$19,000) for the squad.
Combined with the VND700 million awarded for advancing past the group stage, Coach Mai Duc Chung’s team have now received a total of VND1.2 billion ($45,600) in bonuses during this campaign.
The defending champions made light work of Indonesia in the semi-final, showcasing their superior skill and tactics to seal a thrashing win. The performance highlighted the team’s power and fitness as they set their sight on the gold medal.
Vietnam will face the Philippines in the final, scheduled for Wednesday at Chonburi Stadium.
The Philippines advanced to the gold medal match for the first time in history, after a tough game with host nation Thailand, winning 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
The stakes for the final could not be higher. A victory would secure Vietnam’s fifth consecutive SEA Games gold medal, setting a new record in the history of the tournament, while for the Philippines, it would be their first-ever Games gold in women’s football.
Should Vietnam achieve this feat, the team are expected to receive more bonuses from the federation and sponsors.
