What is the new tie-breaker rule in IPL auction? In which the price of players will be decided in a secret manner

IPL Auction: There is tremendous enthusiasm among the fans regarding the IPL 2026 auction. This time BCCI has come out with a new tie-breaker rule regarding the auction process. Which has been prepared to deal with problems like high level secret bid in special cases. In this episode, let us know, what is the new tie-breaker rule of BCCI…

What is tie-breaker rule?

Actually, the tie-breaker rule is a simple solution given by BCCI, if two or more teams settle on the same bid for a player in the auction (IPL Auction), then the board will give them a ‘tie-breaker’ form. In which they will have to write a ‘secret bid’ or rather a secret amount in Indian Rupees. The special thing is that this amount will not be given to that player, rather it will be the amount which the franchise will have to pay to BCCI. Where will the ‘tie-breaker bid’ go and this twist will increase the excitement in the bidding process.

There could be a tri-breaker between these two teams

The Indian Premier League 2026 mini auction (IPL Auction) is going to prove to be a big test of strategies. Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings are the only two teams in this auction which have strong purse balance. The remaining seven teams are almost at the same level in terms of budget. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have a balance of only Rs 2.75 crore left, due to which it seems almost impossible for them to join the race for any big bid. In such a situation, strong bidding can be seen on foreign star players, where Australia’s star all-rounder Cameron Green and England’s Liam Livingstone are considered to be on top.

Excitement among fans

In the past years, regarding Secret Bid (IPL Auction), it has been believed that when both the teams reach a certain limit for a player, then it becomes necessary to put a high amount to seal the deal. However, in this process the amount has to be paid directly to BCCI, due to which the teams do not have any fixed formula to finalize the deal and this increases the curiosity of the fans. The team winning the secret bid will have to make the payment in Indian rupees within 30 days of the December 16 auction, while the price of the player will remain the same at which both the teams were previously locked.
