Sorry, Delhi, but this is impossible for anyone… Why did Delhi government minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa apologize?
New Delhi: Amidst the ever-increasing air pollution problem in Delhi, the capital’s Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Tuesday apologized to the public and admitted that it is not possible for any government to completely clean the air of the capital in 8-9 months. He said that the root cause of pollution is the contribution of the previous governments, especially the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress.
It is impossible to eliminate pollution in a few months
Sirsa said that his government is continuously making efforts to reduce pollution. He said that daily improvement in Air Quality Index (AQI) has been seen in Delhi in the last few months, but it is not practical to completely eliminate pollution in such a short period. The minister described this challenge as a treatment in the medical field, where improvement happens slowly.
attack on opposition
In the press conference, Sirsa clarified that the problem of pollution in Delhi is the contribution of 11 years of Aam Aadmi Party and 15 years of Congress. Taking aim at Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, he said that today they are giving statements on pollution wearing masks, whereas last year when AQI was at the level of 380, they were nowhere to be seen.
Concern over children’s health
Sirsa also admitted that the biggest impact of pollution is on the health of children. He said that we are treating this problem every day, just like a doctor treats a patient every day. We know that it has a serious impact on children and the elderly.
Claim of improvement in AQI
While sharing the data of improvement in AQI, the Minister said that compared to November 2025, this year on an average 20 points less AQI was recorded every day. This improvement continues in December also. He claims that these figures show that the government’s efforts are having an impact on the ground.
Strictness on PUC rules
Referring to the steps taken to control pollution, Sirsa said that now only BS‑6 vehicles are allowed to enter the capital and vehicles without valid PUC certificate will not get fuel at petrol pumps. He believes that these rules have improved the air quality.
apology to the public
The minister said, “I apologize to the people of Delhi that we have not been able to completely clean the air yet. But it is impossible in 9-10 months. We are reducing the AQI every day and will continue efforts like this, so that the people of Delhi can get clean air.”
Attack on previous governments again
Sirsa reiterated that the root cause of pollution in Delhi is the contribution of the previous governments. He said that Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi are giving statements today, but last time when the situation was worse, they were not seen. He says that this problem has been given by Aam Aadmi Party and the present government is trying to improve it.
