Nick Reiner, the son of the late Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner, was not at his parents’ Brentwood home when their bodies were discovered on Sunday afternoon, according to law enforcement sources and media reports.
Authorities say Nick Reiner, 32, had already left the family residence in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles before police arrived at the scene. His parents were found deceased inside the home at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, prompting an immediate homicide investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Nick Reiner Located Near USC Campus
After leaving the Brentwood property, Nick reportedly traveled a short distance away and was later located by police near the campus of the University of Southern California. ABC News reported that officers were able to find him “quickly” in the area surrounding USC.
Nick was taken into custody near the campus at around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday. He was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the deaths of his parents. PEOPLE magazine confirmed that he was detained just hours after the bodies were discovered.
PEOPLE has reached out to the University of Southern California for comment regarding the arrest location, but no response has been issued so far.
Arrest and Charges Following Parents’ Deaths
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were found dead inside their Brentwood home on Sunday afternoon. Shortly after the discovery, investigators identified Nick Reiner as the primary suspect in the case.
Later that evening, Nick was formally arrested on murder charges. Authorities have not yet released detailed information about the cause of death or the circumstances surrounding the killings, citing the ongoing investigation.
Nick Reiner is currently being held without bond at Los Angeles’ Twin Towers Correctional Facility. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that he remains in custody as the case proceeds through the legal system.
