President Murmu Inaugurates Param Vir Dirgha on Vijay Diwas
President of India Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Param Vir Dirgha at Rashtrapati Bhavan on December 16, 2025, marking Vijay Diwas.
The new gallery showcases portraits of all 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees, celebrating their courage and sacrifice.
The gallery aims to educate visitors about national heroes who displayed extraordinary resolve in defending the nation. Moreover, it honours the memory of bravehearts who laid down their lives in the service of the motherland.
Earlier, the corridors featured portraits of British ADCs. Now, the transformation reflects a meaningful step toward shedding colonial legacies and embracing India’s cultural heritage and timeless traditions with pride.
The Param Vir Chakra remains India’s highest military decoration, awarded for exceptional acts of valour, courage, and self-sacrifice during war. Consequently, the creation of the Param Vir Dirgha stands as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of India’s defenders and a reminder of their enduring legacy.
