Punjab News : Taking important steps aimed at strengthening and improving the health care infrastructure of the state, Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema today announced that the Finance Department has approved the recruitment of ANM under the National Health Mission (NHM). The proposal of the Health and Family Welfare Department to fill 1,568 vacant posts of staff nurses has been approved.
Giving more information about the recruitment drive, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that under this approval, A.N.M. Out of the total 2,000 sanctioned posts, 729 vacant posts of Staff Nurses and 839 out of 1896 sanctioned posts of Staff Nurses will be filled, he said, emphasizing that the State Government is committed to ensure that there is no interruption in health care services due to shortage of staff and hence priority has been given to fill these contract-based posts.

Referring to the financial commitment of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led government towards this initiative, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the total annual financial impact of these recruitments is estimated to be Rs 48.88 crore. It will bear the annual expenditure of Rs 18.98 crore for the posts and Rs 29.90 crore for the staff nurse, he said, adding that under the approved salary structure, A.N.M. The salary has been fixed at Rs 21,700 for nurses and Rs 29,700 per month for staff nurses.
Exam from Baba Farid University
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema further said that to ensure eligibility and transparency, the recruitment process is proposed to be conducted through written examination by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. He further said that the Finance Department has given this approval on the condition that the Health Department ensures necessary consent from the Personnel Department regarding these appointments.
Improvement in services through recruitment of vacant posts
Highlighting the strong commitment of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to give priority to health care and education, Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema said that with this decision the state government will strengthen its health care workforce so that better and standard health care services can be provided to the people of Punjab. He said that filling up these vacant posts will undoubtedly enhance the state’s ability to provide effective and efficient health care facilities, which reflects the commitment of the present state government towards the well-being of its citizens.
