Stricter IRCTC Identity Checks Slash New User Registrations From One Lakh to 5,000 Daily
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the crackdown on train ticket bookings made using fake identities is producing clear and positive results.
According to a press note, before these reforms were implemented, the number of new IRCTC user IDs being added each day had reached close to one lakh.
The press note said, “Following the introduction of a stringent system to establish user identity and detect fake IDs, about 5,000 new user IDs are now being added daily on the IRCTC website.”
Over 3 Crore Fake IRCTC Accounts Deactivated, 2.7 Crore More Flagged for Suspension
Officials confirmed that the new measures have already led to the deactivation of 3.03 crore fake IRCTC accounts.
They added that another 2.7 crore user IDs have either been temporarily suspended or flagged for suspension due to suspicious activities.
The Railway Minister has instructed officials to further reform the ticketing system so that genuine travellers can book tickets easily using real and verified user IDs.
In a separate direction, Ashwini Vaishnaw has asked officials to ensure that Vande Bharat trains serve local cuisine from the regions they pass through.
Officials said that offering regional food reflecting local culture and tastes would greatly improve the overall passenger experience.
They also noted that this initiative to introduce local cuisine will be rolled out gradually across all trains in the future.
