Trump orders blockade of Venezuelan oil tankers
Washington. President Donald Trump on Tuesday ordered a “complete blockade” of sanctioned oil tankers traveling to and from Venezuela. This order of Trump has increased the pressure on the Nicolas Maduro government of Venezuela. Also, there is an indication of an economic motive behind America’s military operation in this region.
According to CNN report, Trump used the words ‘Complete Blockade’ in capital letters in the Truth Social post, pointing to the large presence of the US military in the region. He targeted Maduro’s government. He suggested that Venezuela hand over land, oil and assets to the US. The purpose of the military operation is not just to combat the drug trade.
Trump said Tuesday night that Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest naval fleet in the history of South America. It will be even bigger and will give them a shock like they have never seen before. Trump’s threat of a ground attack on Venezuela has increased pressure on Caracas.
Venezuela’s oil reserves are the largest in the world, but they are operating well below their potential due to international sanctions. Most of the country’s oil is sold to China. The US government has imposed sanctions on Venezuela since 2005.
