Trump extends US travel ban on 20 more countries!

US President Donald Trump has issued an order to further tighten travel restrictions. Under this order, along with 20 more countries, the Palestinian Authority has also been added to the sanctions list. With this step, the restrictions imposed on people coming to America or immigrating have increased significantly.

Now a total of five countries are completely banned from entering America. A partial ban has been imposed on citizens of 15 countries. The administration has also completely banned travel by people using travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority.

The White House said that this step has been taken to further tighten the rules related to entry into America. The government says that this decision is related to security concerns. Officials also cited the recent arrest of an Afghan national accused of shooting at two National Guard troops near the White House.

However, some relaxations have also been given in these restrictions. This ban will not apply to people who already have a valid US visa. People with permanent residence permission, diplomats, sportspersons and certain other categories of visa holders are also excluded. If a person’s entry is considered to be in the interest of America, he may be allowed. The government has not told when these new rules will come into effect.

Trump first imposed such travel restrictions in June. Then citizens of 12 countries were completely stopped from entering America and a partial ban was imposed on seven countries. This policy is reminiscent of the famous policy of Trump’s first term.

The June sanctions included Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. Partial sanctions were imposed on Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.

On Tuesday, the administration added Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan and Syria to the full-scale sanctions list. There has also been a complete ban on Palestinian Authority documents. South Sudan was already under tight restrictions.

15 new countries have been added to the list of partial ban. These include Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Ivory Coast, Dominica, Gabon, Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Tonga, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

These restrictions will apply to both people visiting and those trying to settle permanently.

In his order, Trump said that corruption is widespread in these countries, government documents are unreliable and records related to crime are not properly available. This makes it difficult to properly screen passengers. The government also said that citizens of many countries overstay their visas in the US and some countries refuse to take back their citizens.

The government also said that some countries have instability and weak governance, which increases threats related to security, foreign policy and immigration.

Meanwhile, Laos and Sierra Leone have been moved from a partial ban to countries with a full ban. At the same time, there has been some relaxation in the restrictions imposed on Turkmenistan, because improvements have been reported there. All other provisions announced in June are still in force.

Travel restrictions were a big issue even during Trump’s first term, against which protests and legal challenges were initiated. The courts later upheld the amended rules. Supporters say it strengthens the country’s security, while critics say it unfairly targets people based on their country.
