Dubey-Nortje said in Ekana, focus on victory
Lucknow. Indian all-rounder Shivam Dubey and South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje spoke to the media at a press conference held on Tuesday night at the Ekana Stadium before the fourth match of the T20 series between India and South Africa. Both the players expressed their views regarding the team’s preparations, current form and strategy.
Shivam Dubey, present in the press conference on behalf of the Indian team, openly answered the questions being raised regarding the form of captain Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill. He said that Shubman Gill is one of the best batsmen of India and despite ups and downs in form, his average is very good. Dubey said that Gill has been performing consistently for Team India for the last several years.
Whereas, regarding Suryakumar Yadav, he said that he is a 360 degree player and fighter. The kind of cricket Surya plays, no one else can do it. He also told that Suryakumar Yadav has till now won the Man of the Match award equal to Virat Kohli, which shows his ability.
Shivam Dubey also spoke on team combination and the role of the all-rounder. He described Hardik Pandya as a special all-rounder, who can do the work of two players single-handedly. When asked about batting in the lower middle order, Dubey said that it is definitely a high risk, but from there one also gets high rewards. The team focuses on repeating good things over and over again. He said that there are eight batsmen in the team and two-three players perform well in every match, while the rest contribute in some way or the other.
South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje attended the press conference. Regarding his return to international cricket after a long time, he said that he is enjoying this time. His focus is on all formats and the team is constantly trying to improve.
Regarding the pitch, Nortje said that there is no special assessment from his side, but the team would like to bowl first. Regarding the team’s performance in the last two years, he said that the South African team is now playing more consistent cricket. Nortje said that the team is working on improving its game every day. Efforts are being made to further implement the lessons learned in T-20 cricket and further improvement in performance will be seen in the coming matches.
