Banke Bihari Temple: The sentiments of devotees were hurt at Vrindavan’s Banke Bihari temple on Wednesday when the bhog prasad and garlands traditionally offered to Thakurji at the temple could not be offered by the bhandaris. The entry of devotees into Jagmohan of the temple was stopped by the Bhandaris, which disrupted this tradition and spread disappointment among the devotees.
incident details
The devotees who came to the temple for darshan on Wednesday morning arrived with their garlands and bhog prasad. As per tradition, these are offered to Thakurji through the Bhandari and the Bhandari returns the Prasad to the devotee. But this time due to security reasons in the temple, the stewards were not allowed to enter Jagmohan. The temple steward, who was sitting in a corner of the temple, said that the Vijay supervisor deployed in security stopped him from entering the temple courtyard. Due to this reason he could not offer bhog and garland to the devotees. This hurt the religious sentiments of the devotees.
Temple servant Rajat Goswami termed this decision as against the dignity and tradition of the temple and said that this is a step that hurts the sentiments of the devotees. He said, in all the temples the devotee’s Prasad is offered to Thakurji by the Bhandari. Stopping it is against the sentiments of the devotees. Temple High Power Management Committee member Dinesh Goswami said that Bhandari’s entry into Jagmohan has been stopped since Wednesday morning. He said that this decision has been taken only for security reasons, but due to this the traditional religious activities of the devotees have been disrupted.
Tradition and feelings of devotees
In Banke Bihari temple, devotees have been following this tradition for years that they bring garlands and bhog prasad and offer them to Thakurji through Bhandari. It is an integral part of religious faith and sentiments of devotees. After offering the food, the devotees complete the puja by taking the prasad. But this tradition was disrupted due to ban on entry of storekeepers on Wednesday. Devotees appeared disappointed and some expressed their feelings publicly.
The high-powered management of the temple stopped the entry of the stewards citing security reasons. Senior Sevayat and committee members are also emphasizing that along with security, religious sentiments of the devotees should also be respected.
