Non-bailable warrant issued against Manikrao Kokate
According to sources, Maharashtra Police has started the process of arresting Manikrao Kokate. Nashik’s Sessions Court has sentenced Kokate and his brother Sunil Kokate to two years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 in this 28-year-old scam. After this decision, political turmoil has intensified in the state.
Sources close to the Maharashtra government say that if Kokate does not get relief from the High Court, his resignation is almost certain. Along with this, it is also being discussed that both the allies of Mahayuti alliance are pressurizing for the resignation of Kokate. According to sources, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is angry about this warrant and the case.
The situation of both the Mahayuti allies being adamant on resignation has further increased the political suspense. The question also arises as to who will replace Kokate after his resignation and what effect this situation will have on electoral politics.
What is the whole matter?
This matter is from 1995 to 1997. At that time Manikrao Kokate and his brother Sunil Kokate had obtained flats under government housing schemes. He had claimed that his income was low and he did not already have a house. On this basis, these flats were given to them under the government scheme.
However, officials later complained of irregularities in the case. In 1995, Manikrao Kokate was accused of document manipulation and fraud. Former minister Tukaram Dighole had filed a petition in this matter. This crime was registered at Nashik Government Wada Police Station and now the court has given its verdict.
There were a total of four accused in the scam, including Manikrao Kokate, his brother and two others. The court did not give any punishment to the remaining two accused. Only Manikrao Kokate and his brother were sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000. After this decision, the stir in the political circles in Maharashtra has intensified. Many political analysts believe that Kokate’s resignation may affect the equation of Mahayuti and BJP alliance.
