Arrest warrant issued against Maharashtra Sports Minister Manikrao Kokate
Mumbai Maharashtra Sports Minister Manikrao Kokate’s troubles have increased. Nashik District Sessions Court on Wednesday issued arrest warrant for the immediate arrest of he and his brother Vijay Kokate in the government housing scam case. Kokate’s lawyer has filed a petition in the Mumbai High Court to stay this decision of the District Sessions Court and to grant anticipatory bail to Manikrao Kokate and his brothers. Kokate is accused of embezzling government housing concessional housing by forging fake documents.
In the case, on Tuesday, Nashik District Sessions Court had upheld the two-year sentence and a fine of Rs 10,000 awarded to Kokate by the Magistrate Court and ordered immediate action on this decision. After this, the lawyer of Anjali Dighole Rathore, daughter of former MLA Tukaram Dighole, filed a petition in the District Sessions Court on Wednesday demanding the issuance of a warrant for the immediate arrest of Minister Kokate. While hearing this petition, the District Sessions Court has issued an arrest warrant for the immediate arrest of Manikrao Kokate and his brother in the case.
Manikrao Kokate had taken flats in 1995 using fake documents to provide housing to the needy under the Government Housing Scheme. The matter was complained by former minister Tukaram Dighole in Nashik Magistrate Court. After this, following the court order, a case was registered against four people including Manikrao Kokate at Sarkarwada police station. In the same case, on February 20, the Nashik Magistrate Court had sentenced two years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 against the four accused. The same decision was upheld by Nashik District Court on Tuesday and on the same decision today, immediate arrest warrant has been issued against the four accused including Minister Kokate.
