Men’s Hockey Asia Cup: Indian team led by Harmanpreet Singh announced Gujarati
New Delhi: Hockey India has announced the Indian team for the Men’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 to be held in Rajgir, Bihar from 29 August to 7 September. A good balance of young and experienced players is seen in this 18-member team under the leadership of Captain Harmanpreet Singh. The midfield includes Manpreet Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Rajinder Singh, Rajkumar Pal and Hardik Singh. Mandeep Singh, Abhishek, Sukhjit Singh, Shilanand Lakra and Dilpreet Singh will lead the attack. Neelam Sanjeev Jess and Selvam Karthi have been selected as alternate players.
Team coach Craig Fulton said, “We have selected an experienced squad that knows how to perform well under pressure. The Asia Cup is important for us as we are at risk of qualifying for the World Cup, so we needed players who have the patience, flexibility and ability to perform. This selection reflects our intentions. We want to create a team that can compete strongly and achieve our main goals.”
Fulton said, “I am very pleased with the balance and quality of the team. We have key players in every line. Be it defence, midfield or attack, our collective strength is what excites me the most. Team unity is our greatest strength.” In the Asia Cup, India has been placed in Pool A along with Japan, China and Kazakhstan. India will start the campaign against China on 29th August, followed by Japan on 31st August and Kazakhstan on 1st September.
