What advice did Dr. Mehta give on lung maintenance?
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Parthiv Mehta said that since there is no manual available with the human body, understanding our lungs and taking proper care of them is essential for overall health. He stressed on the importance of a good lifestyle, saying that it is essential for strong lungs and a healthy respiratory system.
He explained that our lungs contain approximately 300 million tiny air sacs (alveoli), which together form a natural filter of about 800 square feet and make the breathing process effective.

Dr. Mehta further said that moisture is added to the breath coming out of the lungs, while the sinuses act as a natural heat exchanger and air conditioner, making the air breathable. He also shed light on various respiratory diseases like asthma, lung infections, fibrosis and sleep apnea and said that more than 50 percent of people do not breathe properly.
He added that proper sleeping position, especially sleeping on the stomach, can be beneficial for lung health. The lungs are vital organs that work in constant sync with the heart to maintain life.
