Supreme Court takes strict stance on stray dog issue tells petitioner will show you videos and then ask you about humanity
New Delhi. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court in the case related to stray dogs. The Supreme Court took a tough stance on this petition on Thursday. The bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta filed a petition calling some of the rules made by the Delhi Municipal Corporation inhumane and said that in the next hearing a video will be played and asked whether humanity is there at all? The Supreme Court bench has decided that the next hearing in this case will be on January 7, 2026. During the hearing, senior lawyer Kapil Sibal explained the problem and said that there is no bench of three judges now and meanwhile the Delhi Municipal Corporation has made some contrary rules.

The Supreme Court bench hearing the stray dog case said that it will consider it on January 7. Then Sibal said that the rules will come into effect in December itself. By implementing this rule, stray dogs will be removed. Sibal said that Delhi Municipal Corporation does not have a shelter for dogs. On this, Supreme Court Justice Vikram Nath said that there is nothing much to say, let him do it. On this, Kapil Sibal called such a step extremely inhumane. On this, Justice Vikram Nath said that on the next date we will play a video in your interest and ask you what is humanity? On this, Kapil Sibal told the bench that he would also play the video and show what was happening.

Earlier, on November 7, the Supreme Court had ordered that proper sterilization and vaccination should be done in view of the worrying increase in dog bite incidents in places like educational institutions, hospitals and railway stations. Seven courts had also directed to immediately take stray dogs to designated shelters. A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court had said that stray dogs caught would not be released back to the place from where they were caught. Besides, instructions were given to remove stray animals from all highways. The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the ever increasing cases of stray dog bites and has initiated a case.
