Villages of Punjab gave Diwali like gift. Broom created history by winning 70% seats. – ..
News India Live, Digital Desk: By the end of the year 2025, there has been a big explosion in the politics of Punjab. While the opposition parties were trying to create an atmosphere against the government, the people of the villages i.e. ‘Pindas’ of Punjab have given their verdict. The results of the Zilla Parishad and Block Committee elections (Punjab Local Body Elections) are no less than a storm. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has defeated its opponents by winning almost 70% of the seats.
Why is this victory special?
It is said in politics that the mood of the city and the mood of the village are different. But Bhagwant Mann’s government has proved that its hold has strengthened till the grass-root level. Describing this victory as historic, Arvind Kejriwal said that this is not an ordinary victory, but a ‘stamp of trust’ given by the people of Punjab on the work of his government.
Winning 70 per cent of the seats shows that people are still in no mood to return to the old traditional parties—the Akali Dal and the Congress.
Opposition’s cry and Mann’s befitting reply
As soon as the election results came, the opposition started chanting the same old tune – “Dhakkeshahi hui hai” (coercion). Congress and Akali Dal alleged that government machinery was misused.
But Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s reply on this was worth listening to. He silenced the opposition with very desi style and arguments. He said, “Brother, if we had rigged or used force, why would many of our candidates lose by a small margin of 10, 15 or 20 votes? If we had to ‘push’, we would have put those seats in our bag.” People are liking this argument very much because statistics do not lie.
Got vote at work?
Political experts believe that free electricity, mohalla clinics and government jobs given without any recommendations (expense slips) are the major factors behind this ‘clean sweep’. When a villager sees that the government is directly talking about his benefit, then his vote is one-sided. Kejriwal clearly said that this victory is not a victory of hooliganism, but of the service work done in the last few years.
What next?
These results have given a clear message in the politics of Punjab that at present no strong alternative to the Aam Aadmi Party has emerged. Opposition parties will now have to leave the drawing room and come out into the sunlight, otherwise their ‘exile’ may get longer in the coming assembly elections.
