Asia Cup 2025: Irfan Pathan takes a jibe at Pakistan’s big fielding mistake against Bangladesh

In the Super-4 match of Asia Cup 2025 played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan has booked the ticket for the final by defeating Bangladesh by 11 runs. Now India and Pakistan will face each other on September 28, but despite this victory, Pakistan’s fielding has once again come under question. An opportunity came during the match which proved that fielding still remains a weakness for Pakistan. Former Indian player Irfan Pathan has also taunted about this.

In the match between Pakistan vs Bangladesh, Pakistan missed the opportunity of an easy run-out in the fifth over of the innings. Tauheed Hridoy played a light shot on Shaheen Afridi’s ball, non-striker Saif Hasan ran to take a run but Hridoy did not move from the crease. In such a situation, both the batsmen had come to the same end.

It was a sure chance for Pakistan to run out, but Saim Ayyub’s throw did not go in the right direction and there was no backup at the stumps. The ball went towards mid-on and by then Hasan was safely back in the crease. This mistake has once again raised questions on Pakistan’s fielding.

Seeing this occasion, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan made fun of Pakistan in the commentary. He said, “Both the batsmen are at the same end… What could be a run-out? Pakistan missed. You expect such a mistake from Pakistan only. If both the batsmen are at the same end and still there is no run-out, then it shows that Pakistan is fielding.”

This statement of Irfan quickly went viral on social media also. Fans have also made fun of Pakistan’s fielding.

Bangladesh won the toss and put Pakistan to bat. Under the captaincy of Salman Ali Aga, Pakistani batsmen were seen struggling from the very beginning. The top order faltered and the run rate also could not increase. Due to the efforts of the lower order batsmen, the team somehow managed to reach 135 runs.

It was not easy to defend such a small target, but Shaheen Afridi gave strength to the team with his brilliant bowling. He took early wickets and put pressure on Bangladesh. After this, the rest of the bowlers also kept pace and kept taking wickets at regular intervals. The result was that Bangladesh could score only 124 runs in 20 overs and Pakistan won the match easily.

Now Pakistan team will face India in the final of Asia Cup on Sunday. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see how big a challenge this weak link of fielding becomes for them.
