Oscars 2029: No more TV, live magic of Oscars will be seen on YouTube
YouTube Oscars Live Streaming: A historic change has come to light regarding the Academy Awards (Oscar), the most prestigious awards in the world of entertainment. From the year 2029, the global live streaming of the Oscars will not be done on TV channels, but directly on YouTube. With this decision, the nearly 50-year-old partnership between Oscar and American broadcaster ABC will end. Under the new deal, viewers around the world will be able to watch the Oscar Awards absolutely free.
Global rights of Oscar go to YouTube
YouTube has bought the global broadcasting rights of the Oscars. This deal will start from the year 2029 and will remain in force till 2033. This means that for the next several years, viewers will be able to watch the live telecast of the Oscars through YouTube on mobile, laptop and smart TV. This decision points to the growing power of digital platforms and changing audience habits.
Historic deal worth more than 100 million dollars
According to ET report, sources say that YouTube has bid more than $ 100 million (about Rs 840 crore) for this deal. In this race, YouTube left behind giant media houses like Disney, ABC and NBC Universal. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially confirmed that an agreement with YouTube has been reached until 2033.
What will viewers get on YouTube?
Under this agreement, YouTube will not only show the main Oscar Awards ceremony, but the viewers will also get live coverage of the red carpet event, behind-the-scenes, Governors Ball. In America, this telecast will be on YouTube TV, while in other countries including India, the live stream of Oscar will be available for free on the main platform of YouTube.

Why did Oscar move from TV to digital?
There has been a steady decline in viewership of the Oscars on TV in the last few years. While around 57 million people watched the Oscars in 1998, this number will drop to 18 million in 2025. The Academy has chosen the digital platform YouTube to engage the young audience and increase its global reach.
ABC will have rights till 2028
It is worth noting that ABC channel has reserved the rights to the Oscars till 2028, which also includes the special ceremony of the 100th anniversary of the Oscars. After this, the Oscars will enter a completely digital era from 2029.
