Sanju Samson out of fifth match, uncertainty over Gill’s fitness

New Delhi: The final and fifth match of the Indian cricket team’s ongoing T20 series against South Africa is going to be held in Ahmedabad. Before this important match, the discussion has intensified regarding the fitness of team vice-captain and opener batsman Shubman Gill.

Gill has reached Ahmedabad despite the injury, but his chances of playing still remain uncertain. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether Sanju Samson will have to sit on the bench once again.

How did Shubman Gill get hurt?

Shubhman Gill suffered a toe injury during net practice. In the practice session held in Lucknow before the fourth T20 match, Gill batted for a long time, after which the ball hit his leg. This caused him a lot of pain and he appeared limping. For this reason he could not go to Lucknow for the fourth match, although that match was canceled due to bad weather. According to team officials, all necessary measures are being taken for his early recovery.

Will he play in the fifth match?

A decision is yet to be taken on Gill’s availability in the decisive match to be held on Friday in Ahmedabad. He has come to the city with the team, but due to injury his place in the playing eleven is not assured. If Gill is not fit, Sanju Samson may get a chance to open in his place. Samson has not played in this series yet and his form is quite good. The final decision will be taken by the team management before the match.

Current status of the series

India is leading 2-1 in this five-match series. India’s lead remains intact due to the cancellation of the fourth match. This match will be India’s last international encounter this year. After this, the home series against New Zealand will start in January, which includes three ODIs and five T20 matches.

Gill’s past injuries and form

Gill has struggled with injuries in the past as well. Recently, he was ruled out of several Tests and the entire ODI series due to a neck injury suffered in the opening match of the Test series against South Africa. There have been problems in his batting in this T20 series too, but the team is supporting him.
